Basic Officers’ Enlistment Requirements

Height: 4’10″ to 6’8′ Weight: 90 lb to 227 lb |

| Vision
(in general) (Some military occupations have additional requirements.)

At
least 20/400 or 20/200 vision corrected to 20/20 with eyeglasses or contact lenses. Depth perception and color blindness is also tested. |

Health |
Must
be able to pass a medical exam. |

| Education | Must
have a four-year college degree from an accredited institution. Some officer occupations require advanced degrees or four-year degrees in a specialized field. |

| Aptitude | Must
qualify for enlistment on an officer qualification test. Each service uses its own officer qualification test. |

Investigation |
Background
investigation must reveal that person is of strong moral character. |

| Marital
Status and Dependents |
OCS/OTS/ROTC:
May be either single or married. Academy: Must be single to enter and graduate from service academies. Single persons with one or more minor dependents are not eligible for officer commissioning. |
